Grumari beach is one of the most beautiful in the city of Rio de Janeiro. In addition to the excellent waves for surfing, the beach has a wild and rustic appearance due to the striking presence of sandbank vegetation and the lack of cell phone signal, in other words, the ideal is for you to arrange a return time with the driver or go in your own vehicle.
The beach has several kiosks along its entire length, offering good infrastructure for bathers. The places that are busiest are the left and right corners of the beach. Keep in mind that if you follow the left corner of the beach, you will arrive at the Abricó nudist beach, so be careful not to be surprised by some naked guys walking there.
The rock formation in the right corner creates a natural barrier against the waves, so right next to the rock, it is very calm and perfect for children.
Note: if the waves are very big, even in the right corner it won't be that good for swimming and always pay attention to the lifeguard signs.
Best time of the year to visit:
The best time for bathers and beginner surfers is summer, where the heat, combined with smaller swells, make Grumari an ideal place to spend the whole day at the beach. For more advanced surfers, the best time is autumn and winter, when the waves are bigger and more constant.
Ecological Importance:
The beach is located within a Conservation Unit, the Grumari Municipal Park, where a rich diversity of fauna and flora can be found. According to data from the Municipal Environment Secretariat (SMAC), 270 species of birds were recorded in the park, in addition to endangered species such as the sand gecko (Liolaemus lutzae) and the beach butterfly (Parides ascanius). which was the first insect to be considered endangered in Brazil.
Surf in Grumari Beach Rio de Janeiro:
The ideal wave size varies between 0.4 and 2 meters and the best direction is south/southeast, but on smaller days the beach welcomes any wave direction.
The best wind direction is from the north quadrant, but in the right corner it is possible to surf on southwest days, as long as it is weak or moderate in intensity. Its waves are quite strong and tubular, which is why our surf experience , when we have a beginner group, only take place there on days with smaller waves.
